The new EU Directive NIS2

Since October 17th 2024 , the new EU’s Mandatory Cybersecurity Directive NIS2 has officially come into effect.
The NIS2 Directive strengthens and expands security requirements for critical infrastructure within the EU to enhance both physical safety and cybersecurity.

Here’s what that means for your business.

NIS2 Scope:

Critical infrastructure companies are now divided into two categories: high critical sectors and other critical sectors. The scope of affected companies has been expanded. Infrastructures with high criticality include transport, energy, healthcare, space, banking, digital infrastructure, drinking water and waste water, public administration, financial market infrastructure and ICT service management B2B. Essential entities with a high level of criticality are those which are crucial for maintaining societal and economic functions. Their disruption can severely impact public safety, security, economy and health. Important entities play a vital role in the socio-economic field. Their disruption would also have significant consequences, though less catastrophic.

Article 21 of the NIS2 Directive mandates entities in EU member states to implement specific risk management measures. These include the identification of critical assets, the creation of a basic incident response plan, and the implementation of various security measures based on a thorough risk assessment.
