LI-ION TAMER GEN 3

Honeywell LI-ION TAMER GEN 3

The Li-Ion Tamer in-rack detection system is capable of detecting off-gases released from lithium-ion batteries. The release of off-gas as a result of a malfunction is very early and its detection allows early intervention and prevention of thermal runaway and subsequent disaster.

The system is designed plug-and-play, easy to install and consists of two main components, the off-gas sensor and the control module.

  • Off-gas sensors: they integrate detection algorithms specifically designed to detect the composition of off-gas released from lithium batteries, do not require calibration, are compatible with all types of lithium batteries and have a lifetime similar to that of the lithium batteries themselves.
  • Control module: off-gas sensors are connected to the control module, the logic unit that processes the signal during off-gas detection. It integrates digital and Modbus outputs that can be used for the implementation of signalling and safety actuations of the protected systems.

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION:
The Li-Ion Tamer in-rack detection system is a versatile solution that fits a wide range of lithium battery systems.

Configuration in a typical system:

  • Rack-mounted monitoring sensors – in the airflow downstream of the batteries – to detect any off-gassing
  • Reference sensors to monitor the surrounding environment and near the air intake grilles to detect any interfering particulate matter
  • Control modules to collect and process sensor signals

The in-rack Li-Ion Tamer system requires minimal operation and maintenance procedures as the sensors are designed to require no calibration and have a lifetime comparable to that of the battery system in energy storage. The response of the gas sensors can be easily verified with a bump test. To confirm operation, the sensors can be activated with a bottle of off-gas compounds (diethyl carbonate) supplied by Honeywell.

MAIN FEATURES:

  • Early warning of lithium battery failures
  • Enables action to be taken to prevent thermal runaway
  • Detection without the need for electrical or mechanical contact with the batteries
  • Extended service life
  • Calibration-free
  • Reliable signalling outputs
  • Low power consumption
  • Compatible with all lithium batteries on the market
  • Easy installation
  • Battery monitoring independent and redundant to other systems
  • Self-diagnosis
  • Reduction/removal of improper alarms
  • Various communication protocols with digital and Modbus outputs
